The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for producing some excellent last-ball thrillers. And on 2nd May 2024, we witnessed another exceptional performance from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who held their nerves and registered a 1-run victory against the table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Despite RR being in full control throughout the run-chase, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to plug it back and win the game exercising authority and control in the final few overs. Pat Cummins bowled a fantastic over in the 19th over to make sure that SRH come back into the game.

There were good performances from the likes of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and SRH bounced back to winning ways.

1. Nitish Kumar Reddy’s fantastic batting

Talented young all-rounder of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Nitish Kumar Reddy, played a fantastic knock of 76* runs in just 42 deliveries in the 1st innings and powered Hyderabad to a competitive total of 201 runs.

Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen produced a torrent of big hitting in the final phase of the 1st innings and took Hyderabad to a powerful total after a comparatively sedate start from the 2016 IPL champions. Klaasen scored 42* runs in just 19 deliveries and his innings was packed with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

2. Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s impactful partnership

After Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler were dismissed for ducks, Rajasthan Royals were reeling under a lot of trouble. That is when Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal came and turned things around.

While Parag scored 77 runs in just 49 deliveries, Yashasvi Jaiswal mustered a knock of 67 runs in just 40 deliveries. The duo scored 134 runs together in their partnership and infused hope into the Royals’ innings.

3. Pat Cummins’ game-changing penultimate over

Pat Cummins had conceded just 1 run in the first 5 deliveries of the penultimate over of the game and that is where the entire game changed. Even though Rovman Powell smashed a six off the final delivery, Sunrisers Hyderabad had staged a terrific comeback in the game.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar had 13 runs to defend in the final over and he was successful in defending those runs. He had also taken the wicket of Rovman Powell, when only 2 runs were required from the final ball.
