FIFA: Saudi Arabia Gets First Female Referee

Date:

After making a record-breaking contract with Cristiano Ronaldo, Saudi Arabia has made another move in the international football arena. The conservative country has now named a female referee, in what is a first for them. Anoud al-Asmari is the first female referee from this Arab nation.

She is a part of the 8-member team announced by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. The global governing body has named her as the only woman on the entire list.

“I am happy to be the first Saudi female referee to receive the international badge in the history of Saudi sports,” said Anoud al-Asmari to the news agency, AFP.

Saudi Arabia has pitched to be the host for the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup and is the sole bidder for the 2027 Men’s Asia Cup. The Arab nation along with Egypt and Greece are also bidding for the FIFA World Cup 2030.
