West Indies ICC T20 World Cup 2024

One of the most consistent teams in the T20I format, West Indies will be co-hosting the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 alongside USA. West Indies would be one of the strongest sides in the tournament and would be hoping to take advantage of their home conditions.

After not being able to qualify for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, West Indies would be hoping to bring back their glory days with a T20I World Cup victory in 2024. Led by Rovman Powell, West Indies are packed with several T20 superstars who have a wealth of experience under their belt.

West Indies had beaten defending champions England 3-2 in December 2023 and would be taking oodles of confidence and momentum from that. Plus, they recently whitewashed South Africa in a 3-match T20I series at home.

It was an ominous warning to all the other teams as they look invincible and are flexing their dominant muscles. Plus, the fact that several of their first-team players were not involved in the T20I series versus South Africa because of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is a huge testament to the incredible depth of West Indian cricket.

If we take a look at the batting department of West Indies, then the likes of Brandon King, Shimron Hetmeyer and Nicholas Pooran would be forming the building blocks. They have a wealth of experience and expertise in this format and would be keen on sending shockwaves across the entire cricketing fraternity.

All-rounders in the form of Andre Russell and Roston Chase would be spearheading the backbone of the team and would be critical elements in their sojourn.

Vice-captain Alzarri Joseph would be gunning to breathe fire with the white-ball. Along side him would be key players in the form of Obed McCoy, Shamar Joseph and Gudakesh Motie.

We can expect slow and turning tracks in West Indies and therefore Gudakesh Motie, Roston Chase and Akeal Hosein could spring up surprises to the opposition batters.

We have seen West Indies lift the T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016. And it is very much a possibility that they repeat the feat, carefully considering the above-mentioned variables.

Rovman Powell and co. are going to face Papua New Guinea, Uganda, New Zealand and Afghanistan in their league stage matches starting from 2nd June 2024.
