Former West Indian pacer Dwayne Bravo has been appointed as the bowling consultant of Afghanistan ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. A former T20 World Cup winner, Dwayne Bravo has a wealth of experience in this format and knows the tricks of the trade in this format.
Bravo will be joining the Afghanistan squad for a preparatory camp ahead of the big-ticket tournament in USA and West Indies. He will be playing an instrumental role in making sure that the Asian side puts their best foot forward in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Afghanistan have already arrived in West Indies and will be undergoing a 10-day preparatory camp for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 under the supervision of Dwayne Bravo and the other coaching staff members.
Dwayne Bravo’s addition underlines the fact that6 Afghanistan will be a different beast in the T20 World Cup. Bravo has 625 wickets under his belt in the T20 format and is the all-time leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket.
He has played 91 T20Is for West Indies and has bagged 78 wickets and has amassed 1255 runs. He is widely regarded as one of the best bowling all-rounders ever produced by West Indies.
If not for the rifts with the management, Bravo could have played several other international matches for West Indies. He will be hoping to utilise his knowledge and expertise and power Afghanistan to a good position in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Dwayne Bravo has also plied his trade for several T20 franchises across the globe in leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Abu Dhabi T10 League and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
He recently served as the bowling coach of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024 where his side narrowly missed out on a playoff berth. Ruturaj Gaikwad and co. had finished in the 5th position after their loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their final T20I game on 18th May 2024.
Afghanistan are slotted in Group C
In the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Afghanistan are slotted in Group C. They will be kickstarting their campaign on 4th June 2024 versus Uganda at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The other teams in their group are New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and West Indies.
