The 2023 ODI World Cup will take place in India, and New Zealand pacer Trent Boult says he still has high expectations to play in it.

In August, Boult gave up his central contract to pursue prospects in T20 franchise cricket. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) stated that while they respect and applauded his contribution, the centrally contracted players would be given precedence.

Boult expressed his optimism that his latest choice would not jeopardize his prospects of competing in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India later this year while speaking from Australia.

“It’s a moving landscape at the moment with what that looks like, but I’ve definitely got huge ambitions to still be there. The 2023 World Cup next year in India is a big one that I’d love to be a part of but it’s a lot of cricket away.”

“I want to be there to have another crack and I hope that is still the case. It’s still a wee way away.”

“There’s not a heck of a lot of cricketers in New Zealand. There’s not a lot of people!”
