India women have had a terrific start to the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 campaign as they have defeated Pakistan women and UAE women. The most successful side in this competition has their eyes on the prize and would be looking to win their 8th title.
In the match against UAE women, Siliguri-born Richa Ghosh smashed a powerful knock of 64* runs in 29 balls and the innings was a visual treat for all. Ghosh’s power-packed innings was laced with 12 fours and 1 six and she batted with a strike-rate of 220.69.
Post the fifty, Richa Ghosh became the youngest wicket-keeper batter to score a 50 in T20Is for India. The previous record was held by Rishabh Pant, who scored a half-century at the age of 21 years and 206 days in 2019 versus West Indies.
Ghosh’s age was 20 years and 297 days when she had a blitzkrieg of a knock against UAE women on 21st July 2024. She helped India post a total above 200 and this was also the first time that the Blue Tigresses posted a total above 200 in Women’s T20I cricket.
It was a special day for Indian cricket as several records tumbled. India not only won the game but also sent out a statement: that they are a champion side in Asia and it requires a lot of skill and effort to beat them in international cricket.
“Really happy. When I’m playing with Harry di, she guides me about how the ball is coming on. When the opportunity comes to me, I want to just deliver what I know and what I’m practicing. First four from the cover drive was the favourite moment. Yeah I’m feeling good (recovery from concussion),” said Richa Ghosh, post the game.
As India defeated UAE by 78 runs, Richa Ghosh was adjudged the player of the game award for her stellar knock.
With the white-cherry, Deepti Sharma topped the bowling charts as she bagged 2 wickets and had an economy rate of 5.75.
