On February 13, 2023, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the eagerly awaited VCT 2023 LOCK//IN competition began. The first Alpha Bracket Round 1 of the competition paired NRG Esports of North America against KOI of Europe, and DetonatioN FocusMe of the Pacific versus Giants Gaming of Europe.
The single-elimination tournament style of LOCK//IN fosters a fiercely competitive atmosphere among the 32 competing teams from the Americas, Pacific, and EMEA regions. It has a strict format where losing a series would forfeit teams their chance to compete.
Fans saw NRG Esports’ perfect form in action as they defeated KOI in the opening encounter of Day 1. Giants Gaming won the second set by using discipline and accurate headshots to defeat DetonatioN FocusMe and proceed to the second round of the Alpha Bracket in the Valorant VCT LOCK//IN.

- NRG Esports vs KOI: 2-0 [Icebox (13-11), Haven (13-9)]
- Giants Gaming vs DetonatioN FocusMe: 2-0 [Haven (13-4), Icebox (13-7)]
DetonatioN FocusMe and KOI are thus taken out from the tournament. NRG and Giants Gaming, will move ahead into Alpha Bracket Round 2. They will now compete against each other.

- Comeback by NRG versus KOI
Fans witnessed NRG come back from 3-9 to make things right in addition to seeing several typical Icebox trends.
KOI had nine rounds under their belt and a commanding lead. However, while North America regained its pace in the second half, things swiftly went south for EMEA. NRG Esports quickly completed the race and prevailed with a 13-11 score.
- DFM Anthem’s ACE in the 17th round
Another highlight took place in DetonatioN FocusMe’s 17th round of their second match against Giants Gaming, after falling behind 5-12. DFM Anthem took matters into his own hands and patiently eliminated his opponents in the post-plant, impressing observers and earning the first ACE of the competition for himself.
