Chennaiyin FC vs Kerala Blasters FC

It needed a special performance from Chennaiyin FC to stop the Kerala Blasters FC juggernaut. Ivan Vukomanovic’s side was on a 5-match winning streak at the start of this game. But a 1-1 stalemate against Chennaiyin FC broke their winning run.

The tight game at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai witnessed 2 goals; one from each side. The talented attacking midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad opened the goal-scoring account in this fixture. He scored his third goal of this season after receiving an excellent through ball from Ivan Kaliuzhnyi.

Even though Chennayin FC’s custodian Debjit Majumdar came toward the 25-year-old, he could not stop him. Samad scored past the goalkeeper and jersey number 18 was extremely happy with the goal.

The half-time score read 1-0 in favor of Kerala Blasters FC. Just 3 minutes into the second half, Chennaiyin FC found their equalizer. Vincy Barretto scored the goal against his former club Kerala Blasters FC. Substitute Rahim Ali fired one goal toward the goal but custodian Prabhsukhan Gill saved it. The ball then went straight into the path of Barretto and he smashed a wonderful goal.

Notably, the 23-year-old winger has previously played for the Yellow Army. He has represented Kerala in 17 matches and has scored 2 goals for the franchise. Barretto has also plied his trade for Gokulam Kerala FC and Goa B. In his youth career, he was a part of Dempo FC.

Kerala Blasters has a 6-match unbeaten streak in ISL 2022-23

Both Kerala Blasters FC and Chennaiyin FC shared the spoils yesterday in a high-voltage encounter at Chennai. Ivan Vukomanovic would be a tad disappointed as his side’s winning run is broken. However, Kerala Blasters FC is still unbeaten for the past 6 games, and that in itself should be a proud moment for them. They are presently in the 4th position in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 points table with 19 points under their belt.

Chennaiyin FC on the other hand is in the 7th position in the ISL 2022-23 points table. They have 4 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses under their belt.
