Mumbai Indians IPL Mega Auction

The IPL 2025 season is expected to be a major turning point for several franchises, particularly the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Recent reports indicate that two of MI’s biggest stars, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, are expected to leave the franchise ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction.

The IPL Governing Council is yet to announce the number of retentions each franchise will be allowed for the 2025 season.

If the limit is set at four players during the IPL mega auction 2025, including one overseas, it will make things tough for MI. However, it will potentially open up opportunities for teams like RCB, LSG, and DC to acquire Indian captaincy options.

Rohit Sharma’s Departure from Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma, who recently led India to the T20 World Cup title, is expected to be in high demand during the IPL 2025 auction.

He was removed from his captaincy role before the 2024 season, with Hardik Pandya taking over the leadership.

This decision reportedly left Rohit disappointed, and his body language suggested that he might seek a fresh start elsewhere. The Mumbai Indians finished last in the league table during the 2024 season, which has led to speculation about a complete overhaul of the team.

As per reports, Rohit is likely to part ways with MI, and there are indications that he could join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL mega auction.

His experience and leadership skills would be highly sought after by other franchises, especially KKR, which is looking to strengthen its squad after a successful 2024 season.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Future

Suryakumar Yadav, who was recently appointed as the T20I captain of India, is also expected to leave MI. His close association with Rohit Sharma could influence his decision to follow him to a new franchise.

Suryakumar Yadav could also be tempted by offers of a leadership role from other franchises if not retained by MI.

Reports suggest that Suryakumar’s impressive performances in the World Cup, where he scored 199 runs at a strike rate exceeding 150, have increased his market value.

KKR is again mentioned as a potential destination for him, as they aim to bolster their batting lineup.
