MS Dhoni IPL 2025

MS Dhoni’s potential participation in IPL 2025 is again gaining momentum, particularly following the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) disappointing performance in the 2024 season, where they failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Dhoni, who has been a pivotal figure for CSK, stepped down as captain before the 2024 season, handing over the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

His future participation in IPL to hinge on several key factors, including an upcoming BCCI meeting and his communication with CSK owner N Srinivasan.

MS Dhoni’s Current Status and Performance

MS Dhoni faced significant fitness challenges during the 2024 season, particularly with a knee injury that had previously required surgery.

Despite these issues, he managed to score 161 runs at a striking rate of 220.55, primarily batting in the lower order.

However, his physical condition has raised questions about his ability to continue playing at the highest level.

Will Dhoni Play in IPL 2025? Key Decision Factors

BCCI Meeting: A key meeting between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL franchise owners is scheduled for July 31, 2024.

This meeting will determine the number of players each franchise can retain for the upcoming season.

Reports suggest that if the retention limit is set at five or more players, Dhoni may choose to continue his playing career.

On the other hand, if the limit is four or fewer, key players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja could be prioritized over him for retention.

Communication with N Srinivasan: Dhoni has reportedly communicated his intentions regarding his future to CSK owner N Srinivasan.

This relationship is crucial, as Srinivasan’s support and understanding of Dhoni’s situation could significantly influence the decision-making process regarding team composition and Dhoni’s role moving forward.

Mentorship Role: Even if Dhoni opts not to play, there is speculation that he could remain with CSK in a mentoring capacity.

His extensive experience and leadership qualities would provide invaluable support to the team, regardless of his playing status.

CSK’s Management Perspective

CSK’s management remains optimistic about Dhoni’s return. CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated that they respect Dhoni’s decisions and expect him to announce his plans at an appropriate time.

He emphasized that the franchise is hopeful for Dhoni’s availability in IPL 2025, reflecting the sentiments of fans who view him as a pivotal figure in the team’s history.
