Faf du Plessis didn’t have a great match as a skipper for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022. The right-handed batsman scored 88 runs but still ended up on the losing end. And, post-match he looked unimpressed with the fielding due to which Bangalore-based franchise lost the game. Faf du Plessis played a captain’s knock of 88 runs but his brilliant effort went to vain.

It was a flashing night for Punjab Kings and a disheartening one for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In a high-scoring affair, Faf du Plessis lost the match by 5 wickets with six balls to spare. Punjab King’s batting order looked in their top form and every batsman contributed valuable runs except for debutant Raj Bawa, who got out for a duck. However, the star of the night was West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith.

The right-handed batsman played a match-winning cameo of 25 balls off 8 balls. During his quickfire knock, he was dropped by Anuj Rawat near the boundary rope. Also, Harshal Patel missed his easy run-out

Post-Match, Faf du Plessis said that Odean Smith played exceptional knock for Punjab Kings. He added that the West Indies player was dropped at 10 and that was the point where we lost the game.

“Odean Smith 25 off 8 balls…I think we probably dropped him on 10. After that, we were looking at some (Punjab) tailenders coming in. The cliche of catches win watches,” said Du Plessis at the post-match presentation.

Faf du Plessis mentioned that there was dew on the field. But bowlers did bowl really well with the wet ball. As per him, Odean Smith is a big player and he proved that once again in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“There was a bit of dew out there, a tough night for the bowlers; but I thought they were pretty decent with the wet ball. Small margins, but they (Punjab) chased it down really well. They had a really good powerplay.

“The ball skidded on a bit more in the second innings and then we pulled it back beautifully. We did a lot of good things in the middle. But you know what Odean Smith can do to you. So you got to hold on to those chances. Even the other guy, Shahrukh Khan, didn’t really nail it tonight until the last couple of balls. So a completely different game if you hold on to those chances,” he added
