Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the competition was postponed in 2020–2021 and performed in a modified format in 2021–2022. The Ranji Trophy 2022–23 will feature 135 games starting on December 13, 2022, and running until February 20, 2023.

Madhya Pradesh defeated Mumbai in the final game by a margin of six wickets to win the 2021–22 season. Mumbai, however, has won as many as 41 titles, making them the most successful team in history.

Ishant Sharma will play for Delhi, while Ajinkya Rahane will captain Mumbai. For Mumbai’s matchup with Hyderabad in the second round, Suryakumar Yadav will be available. After the first two rounds, which overlap with India’s Test tour to Bangladesh, Cheteshwar Pujara will be available for the league phase.

The captains of Andhra and Karnataka, respectively, Hanuma Vihari and Mayank Agarwal, will be attempting to revive their stalled Test careers. One of Delhi’s newest captains, Yash Dhull, will be aiming to build on a strong fist-class initiation.

A strong Ranji Trophy performance will keep seasoned players Rahane and Ishant in the running for IPL 2023 mini-auction on December 23. Even though they played the first two games in red-ball format, their performance may have helped.
