Coming as an absolute shocker four days after the IPL Mega Auction, the assistant coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Simon Katich has quit his post. The resignation, as per a report in The Australian, came as a result of SRH reportedly going against their pre-auction plans in the IPL 2022 mega auction. While disagreement over auction strategy is one thing, Katich is also said to have been annoyed with the way the franchise has been managing things lately.

A video was posted on Sunrisers Hyderabad’s official handle after the conclusion of IPL auctions. In the video, Katich was explaining the reason why the franchise went for South African internationals Aiden Markram and Marco Jansen in the auction.
Though most of the calls at the auction were taken by the team CEO & daughter of the promoter Kavya Maran. It is being speculated that Katich was reportedly not happy with the way Sunrisers has ignored its pre-auction plans. As per the sources, Katich protested the decisions of the CEO & others on the selection of the team post the auction.
First, the franchise sacked David Warner as the captain and even froze him out from the team. Later, Trevor Bayliss and Brad Haddin also exited the franchise as coaches. And now, Katich isn’t a part of the backroom staff too.
Katich is mostly known for his straightforwardness and is a highly experienced coach. He has had coaching stints with a number of franchises in the IPL before. He has worked with both Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) earlier in the IPL.
Hyderabad had finished at the bottom of the table in the IPL 2021 season. The team underwent a radical change this time around, roping in plenty of fresh faces while giving captaincy to Kane Williamson on a permanent basis.
Ahead of the mega Auction, they retained Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik. West Indies’ wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran turned out to be the most expensive pick for the Sunrisers at INR 10.75 Cr.
